Registration Instructions for New and Returning Referees:

  • New Referees
    • Complete a Grade 8 Entry-Level Referee Course
    • Once you have completed the course, email the BAC Referee Coordinator to let them know (indicate if you used a different name variation or email address to register on gameofficials.com or they may have trouble finding you), and you will be added to the RCYSL group #1370 (used to assign you matches).
    • Note that if you take a Grade 8 Course in July or later, you will be registered through 2023, which will save you $50 next season. Prior to July, you will get a 2022 badge and will have to renew for the next season.

  •  Returning Referees
    • You should already have a login username and password to gameofficials.com. If not, use the password recovery feature.
    •  Log in, then click 'Change Identity' and switch to the CNRA group #1271
    •  Click 'Courses' on the main menu, then 'Referee Courses', then ANNUAL USSF REGISTRATION RENEWAL - GRADE 8
    •  Pay your money and allow 6-12 weeks to receive your badge
    • If you missed being licensed for one or more seasons, there are special re-certification tests and registration links listed on the Courses page.

Referee Uniform Conduct and Supplies:

  • Official Sports (the exclusive uniform supplier to USSF, USASA, and NISOA): http://officialsports.com/
  • Other suppliers, “economy” uniforms, etc. are acceptable as long as the item(s) meet basic referee uniform requirements (black referee shorts, yellow referee jersey, black referee socks – preferably two-stripe style not three, primarily black cleats or comfortable shoes)
  • Starter kits are available thru officialsports.com, local soccer-specific stores, and dozens of websites for reasonable package prices for the beginner.

  • If you are buying your first or an alternate color jersey, spend your money on the “new” style. The “old” style (thicker, more stripes, large black collar) is still acceptable for at least this season, and crews may mix-n-match as long as their colors match.
  • If you wear an undershirt, it must be solid black or match the color of your jersey – thus, no white undershirts!
  • If you wear a hat/cap, it must be solid black, with no visible logos except USSF, US Soccer or referee related.
  • Wear an actual sports watch while officiating (a pocket timer is fine as a backup only)
  • Buy a quality whistle and practice using it. Find your preferred style: handheld, lanyard, or finger grip.
  • Buy a card set (yellow and red) and a flag set. For flag quality, you get what you pay for.
  • Have at least two pens or pencils available to you, and have something to write on and one of your pens on your person at all times while officiating; this goes for assistant referees as well (all referees of a match should record goals and yellow cards at a minimum – good teamwork means we back each other up).
